Why You Need a Running GPS Watch!

Those of you that know me will know of my love for weird and funky tech gadgets. Since the early days of GPS I have had GPS systems of one type or another. I began by purchasing A GPS device that would plug into my Handspring Visor. Then I moved to stand alone devices from Garmin and Magellan, When the Running GPS watches started to come out I had to have one of those as well. I have had several different models to try them out and see how they work. You may find that you really love all the things that a GPS watch can do for you as well. I hope that you will give one a try today! Your running will really improve if you use the device properly.

So, do you love to run?

  • Do you run competitively recording your time and working at improving your time to be faster?
  • Do you run several times a week with a run that lasts over thirty minutes?
  • Recording your hard workouts in a journal?
  • In some of your workouts do you do interval exercises/training?
  • Would you like to gain more insight into your runs

If you answered yes to two or more of these questions than a running GPS watch is an instrument that you want to invest in! Running is one of the fastest growing sports right now. There are many local, national and international races and marathons. For that reason many individuals train themselves or are professionally trained to participate in these events.  Depending on the event there can even be opportunities to win money.

For an average jogger/runner a basic watch with a stop timer and multi session history with a chronograph timer would work perfectly for you. It would give you the tools in order to train at the pace you wanted if competing and hard core works outs were not for you.

For the more serious individuals another great resource for you would be a runner’s watch.  There are a few key tools to look for within a watch that you may not have thought of.

  • The display can be very important. Over sized numbers that have a dark light or coloring to be able to see the time at a glance while running. It can be difficult to see small numbers while in the motion of running.
  • A top of the line runner’s watch will have a mechanism where repetition and recovery times can be recorded along with a fixed distance.
  • Another helpful tool within a runner’s watch is the unique ability to record time in a few ways.
    • One is to lap/split time logging over a session
    • Multiple logging session
    • Lap/split recording points along the run. Modern watches are capable of this but the cheaper in of the line may not be able to.
    • Interval timer where you do a hard five minute run and then take a two minute rest in between another set.

Overall there are some super helpful watches out there to assist you the runner in pursuing the very best of yourself! You deserve it!
