I looked extensively into the whole GPS tracking thing the first time my dad took off and we had to call the police to find him.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much out there. Most of the so called GPS tracking products aren’t live–you take out a chip and download the info on where someone has been. There are ankle and wrist bracelets similar to what those on probation wear, but they only sound an alarm when the perimeter is breached, they don’t tell you where the person is.
A few months ago, some GPS shoes came out that seem promising. I wrote about them on my blog (02-14-2007). They are expensive and you have to pay for monthly monitoring service, but if your loved one wanders you call and get accurate, live info on where s/he is.
The problem is, what if the person wanders and ISN’T wearing the shoes? I really want some kind of bracelet that can’t be removed (like my dad’s Safe Return ID).
Hope this helps.
